BBC’s Green Planet AR experience is sold out… but you might still be able to go

BBC Earth and EE 5G have launched an AR experience in central London based on the forthcoming natural history blockbuster Green Planet.

Unfortunately, the tickets went like hot cakes. Probably because they were free and hey, who doesn’t want to see an AR David Attenborough? But there might be a sneaky way in!

The exhibition-style experience lets you use a phone through which you can uncover and explore five biomes through: Rainforest, Freshwater, Saltwater, Desert and Seasonal and get up close and personal with plants and the animals that rely on them.

Meeting David Attenborough… kinda

It’s a very cool 40-60 minutes that gives a glimpse of how AR could be integrated in museums and learning experiences of the future. We made flowers grow, helped critters find a home and even cleared plastic from the ocean, all while listening to Attenborough’s voiceover.

Making friends :)

So - the tickets. There’s two ways. The first is the grab a return, all returns show up on the ticketing page, so you can check periodically and see if any become available (this is how we managed to get in on a stormy day).

The second way in is to turn up and try your luck. While you can’t be guaranteed access, I was told by one of the stewards that that’s what she was telling her friends because they’re getting quite a lot of no shows. It was certainly quiet when we went round.

I guess because the tickets went for free, many people don’t feel like they have skin in the game and have to turn up. It’s kind of sad, because the experience is really awesome and definitely deserves to be seen!

If you’re in the area, consider giving it a whirl and let me know how you get on.

The Green Planet AR Experience is available until 9th March at 55 Regent’s Street. Tickets are free and bookable here
