Best Immersive Exhibitions coming to London in 2022

Some pioneering museums and galleries are now including elements of immersive theatre and technology including AR, creative sound design, projection and good old fashioned interior design in an effort to better educate and entertain us, the public.

I’m just excited by the sheer variety and creativity of these offerings; From exploring reggae forests and augmented reality jungles to checking out 1st class on the Titanic and catapulting into space. Here’s a round-up of everything I know that’s coming up in London.

Bob Marley One Love Experience

Curated in part by the Marley family, the experience is a celebration of the legend and showcases memorabilia and immerses the audience in the One Love Forest, Soul Shakedown Studio and Concrete Jungle Street Art Expo.

There’s a number of VIP experiences including yoga in the one love forest, Friday and Saturday lates with live music and access to a special room for super fans.

On now at Saatchi Gallery until April 18. Tickets are usually £19 but £14.40 if you buy from Time Out Offers

Titanic The Exhibition

This exhibition brings the Titanic to life through scale recreations of the ship’s interiors and audio recordings of survivor testimonies.

There’s also 200 objects that have never been seen in the UK including photographs, handwritten letters, keepsakes and other personal belongings of those who were on board the tragically-fated ship.

Titanic The Exhibition is on at Dock X in Canada Water until 17 April. Tickets are £22.90 for adults.

If you’re interested in this historical event, there’s also a Titanic-themed dining experience coming to the Savoy in October.

The Green Planet AR Experience

BBC Earth and EE 5G have launched an AR experience in central London based on the forthcoming natural history blockbuster Green Planet.

The exhibition-style experience lets you use a phone through which you can uncover and explore five biomes through: Rainforest, Freshwater, Saltwater, Desert and Seasonal and get up close and personal with some incredible plants and the animals that rely on them.

I went recently and think it’s easily the best AR experience I’ve ever been to. We made flowers grow, helped critters find a home and even cleared plastic from the ocean, all while listening to Attenborough’s soothing voiceover.

Green Planet AR Experience is on now at 55 Regent’s Street until 9 March 2022. Tickets are free and available here. They are booked up but we’ve heard that walkins are very possible… if you want to try your luck!

Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination

The Science Museum are bringing us what sounds like an unbelievably cool exhibition dedicated to science fiction. It starts with boarding a space ship… do you need anything else?

No problem, gaze over planet Earth from the stunning observation deck and touch down on a mission to an unexplored world.

The exhibition, touted as “the most ambitious ever staged at the Science Museum”, puts visitors at the heart of an interactive science fiction story.

Can. Not. Wait.

The exhibition opens 6 October 2022 and runs until 4 May 2023. Tickets are available now for £20.

Netflix Immersive Exhibition at the Design Museum

So Netflix, no stranger to the immersive game after their collaborations with Fever (Money Heist, Bridgerton) and Secret Cinema (Bridgerton), have recently announced this exhibition in partnership with the Design Museum.

However, we have no dates or specifics! The streaming giant says it will look at: ”the key elements of the Netflix experience, its evolution over time, and our underpinning design philosophy.” The exhibit will also showcase “fan favourites” and I for one am hoping it will include The Crown…
